Myrtle Beach Reviews : WordPress Blog Design

When Clayton came to E.Webscapes for his design project, Myrtle Beach Reviews , Leanne was all too excited to get started! Samantha Wise , the illustrator of “Sandie Beech”, created a fun and inspiring graphic illustration for Clayton’s design that Leanne built on, creating a “notebook” look for the entrance into Sandie’s Review area. Highlighting categories and subcategories in the top horizontal dropdown menu, travelers can choose exactly what they’re looking for when planning their Myrtle Beach vacation (or relocation!). Leanne created three main areas of focus on the home page design – Featured Condos, Upcoming Events and, using the Post Ratings plugin, the top rated Reviews from the blog.

ChuckleMonkey : WordPress Blog Design

Ken selected E.Webscapes for a new design for ChuckleMonkey – where he provides professional and amateur comedians, as well as club owners, booking agents, and V producers worldwide with the latest and greatest news in the Comedy industry. With loads of great content and information to pass on, it was important to him to have a well sorted menu for ease in navigation throughout his blog. Leanne “put the spotlight” on the ChuckleMonkey and designed a three column theme using shades of blue and pulled in yellow and purple through stitched tape and comment bubbles, a clapboard to display the date, as well as a cool handwritten font (using the TTFTitles plugin) to make the look as entertaining as the content

Nashville Glam : WordPress Site Design

E.Webscapes was approached by Beth at Nashville Glam to create a fabulous new design for her insider’s guide to beauty and fashion and fun in Nashville; it’s everything but the music.  The not only did Beth want a new design, but we also switched her from TypePad to WordPress, our favorite, versatile platform! Beth wanted a look that was fresh and fun, and she didn’t want it to look too stereotypical “country” – no cowboy boots or denim!  Of particular note for Beth was the look of her header design.  Beth was very particular about the look she wanted to achieve, and Dino was able to find that look for her!  He was also able to answer a lot of questions that Beth had regarding using WordPress. Dino was also able to achieve a lot of great functionality for Beth through the use of WordPress plugins, including some great Search Engine Optimization, the NextGen Photo Gallery, integration of social media such as MySpace and Twitter, and way to sell some fun merchandise as well!  He even through in a WordPress upgrade for her at the end of the project! Beth’s website sure turned out fun and trendy!  We look forward to all the fun “country music scene” gossip that she digs up for us! Chris had a great concept for a fun layout for his website, ReverseHappyHour , but had one minor problem – he needed someone to implement it and bring it to life.  Enter E. Webscapes! Chris needed us to code his Photoshop PSD file for WordPress, and he also wanted us to make recommendations for plugins and his layout structure.  One of the big pieces of Chris’s website was the set up and configuration of user reviews for the website, and Dino was up for the challenge. Chris was quite excited to learn that Dino would be working on his project, commenting that “I love your clean, stylized graphics design style (your blog is awesome).

Colorburned – WordPress Theme Design and Implementation

Back in 2008 , I worked with Grant Friedman from Colorburned to implement his design ideas into a custom theme for his Movable Type powered site.  Recently, Grant approached me again with his desire to convert his MT blog over to WordPress – including a brand new theme design with several innovative features, to boot! He brought his design ideas and specifications and  I was up for the challenge… There were several challenges to this project that needed to be attacked, meticulously, one-by-one. The first was his import from the Movable Type platform into WordPress .  WordPress has a built-in importer for Movable Type, which works beautifully.  However, Grant has been blogging on Movable Type for a year and has a decent page rank for his domain.  The last thing we wanted to do was lose his permalink strucutre, so I needed to make sure that all of his permalinks remain the same.  Some differences between his Movable Type permalinks and the ones, intially, built by WordPress? His current Movable Type permalinks end in .html WordPress permalinks don’t end in .html His current Movable Type system uses the page title for the permalink slug, but cuts it off at 26 characters WordPress uses the full page title for the permalink slug, regardless of its length His current Movable Type permalinks have underscores between the words: eg: follow_me_on_twitter WordPress, by default, places dashes between the words in the permalink slug: eg: follow-me-on-twitter These challenges weren’t impossible to overcome, just made things a little more interesting to get through.  A few tweaks in the WordPress permalink strucutre, .htaccess and some mySQL database manipulation and we were golden.  This article in the WordPress Codex helped guide me through: Importing from Movable Type to WordPress .  With his permalink structure fixed up to match his previously existing (Movable Type) permalinks, Grant won’t lose any inbound link love from Google, other sites and other search engines, social network sites, etc.  This is vital in any platform conversion
